MS General Surgery is a postgraduate Academic Course imparted in the medical field of General Surgery, which deals with the surgical treatment of various abdominal organs, e.g. intestines, including the esophagus, stomach, colon, liver, and furthermore of the thyroid gland and hernia.
The duration of Masters in General Surgery course is 3 years, spread over 6 semesters, including the examination period. The MS surgery course is approved by the Medical Council of India. It is recognized worldwide subject to clearing the local eligibility exams in the respective countries.
The curriculum includes clinical case discussions, seminars, journal clubs and patient care, hands-on experience of assisting and performing supervised surgeries, hands-on postgraduate clinical training in operation rooms and cadaveric dissection lab thereby improving the clinical skills in the field of otorhinolaryngology.

To be eligible for MS surgery, candidates have to qualify with a 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics, and an MBBS with a minimum one-year internship. The duration of the course is generally three years but is reduced to two years for a recognized degree in the same field. As per the guidelines issued by DGHS, for General, Foreign, and NRI Category, the candidate must have passed in an MBBS degree recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI), and their Internship completion date should be on or before 31.03.2020
To meet the registration requirements, candidates should have obtained permanent registration with the Medical Council of India/State Medical Councils & Karnataka Medical Council. The registration details need to be submitted prior to the commencement of classes.
The admission is purely based on merit, and the medical colleges and universities conduct common entrance examination for the candidates. Admission to MS General Surgery is based on counseling after clearing entrance exams.
General Category admissions will be carried out on the basis of the valid rank obtained in the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET), 2020, and Foreign/NRI admissions will be carried out on the basis of valid Score in the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) 2020.
