Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) is a much-sought-after bachelor’s degree that helps you to become a dentist in India. This course is for five years, out of which four years of the course is for studying and one year of mandatory rotating internship.
To practice dentistry in India, you need to have a BDS degree. The BDS course is regulated by the Dental Council of India, where you must register upon completion of the course.
The entry-level examination for BDS is the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). The BDS course is open to people of all nationalities. Namely, there are two categories: General – open for Indians and Foreign/NRI category – open for the NRIs.
All candidates irrespective of their category must have cleared the 10+2 level with a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology.
NRI Category – The candidates must have completed an equivalent course of 10+2 courses in India. They need to get an Equivalence Certificate from the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi, who will equate their qualifications with that of the 10+2 level of India.
The National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) is the common examination for General as well as the NRI category.
For General Category, the NEET rank is considered, whereas, for the NRI category, the NEET score is considered.

4. Course Curriculum
The BDS course curriculum is almost the same throughout every institution. The curriculum contains –

Own Dental clinic
It is one of the most common paths chosen by the graduates. Following the standard rules and regulations, a Bachelor in Dental Science can have his or her own setup to practice dentistry.
