Everything You Need to Know About MCA Course

Master of Computer Application or MCA is an advanced post-graduate degree in computer science. The MCA course is well-suited for students who are passionate about computers and programming. Rapid technological change has become the order of the day today. Industries have been transforming their tech processes at a breakneck pace. MCA Course Details

Being a postgraduate degree in computer applications, MCA course duration is of two years. The two years are divided into four semesters. The coursework is a fitting blend of theory and practical courses. The theory portion of the MCA course syllabus strengthens the fundamentals of the student in advanced topics like Advanced Data Structures and Algorithms, Cloud Computing, Object-Oriented Programming, Network Programming, and Web Programming.
On the other hand, the practical sessions reinforce the fundamentals taught, and equip the student with employable skills which would be useful in the real world. The course concludes with project work in the final semester, in which the student can work on a real-world problem of his or her liking. This gives students an opportunity to research a real-world problem, and apply their learning in that context. MCA courses set a student up for success in the IT sector.

Eligibility and Admission Process

Students with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Applications (BCA), or a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology or Computer Science (BSc. IT/BSc. CS) are eligible to apply. MCA admission eligibility criterion is a minimum score of 50% in BSc. IT or CS, or in BCA. For admission to the MCA course at Manipal Institute of Technology, students are also required to take the Manipal MCA entrance exam called Manipal Entrance Test (MET).

The MCA entrance is comprised of 100 questions with a duration of one and a half hours. The exam is held between April and May. The syllabus consists of Mental Ability, Basic Mathematics, General English, and Computer Aptitude. The marking scheme includes negative marking with four marks for a correct answer and a negative one mark for a wrong answer. Both Indian nationals and foreign nationals/NRIs can apply for this course.
